Hypnosis is a completely natural state of mind which occurs regularly and effortlessly every day of your life. It is the process of being absorbed in your imagination, rather like being in a daydream.
Hypnosis can be used to bring about an improvement in your general functioning, enabling you to feel better.
Hypnosis is an aid to relaxation and, rather like meditation, can calm and restore your vitality on all levels. Used on its own hypnosis is a pleasant, deeply relaxing experience. Virtually everyone experiences the state of hypnosis several times a day. For example, where you are deeply engrossed in some activity and lose track of time or fail to hear someone calling your name until they have repeated it several times or if you are lost in a daydream and lose some awareness of your immediate surroundings.
It is when the mind is in such a relaxed state that the subconscious part of your mind becomes more receptive to change. The memory or sense-impression of everything that has ever happened to you is stored in your subconscious mind. These memories or ‘impressions’ govern your responses, reactions, habits and emotions. Mostly they are useful to us and enhance our experience of life. However, when these responses are unhelpful or unwanted they can interfere with our emotional, mental or physical well-being; this is where hypnotherapy can help to make the desired changes.
